Over 65s programme

Overview

Due to the staging of our vaccine deliveries and the need to allocate an appointment time to every patient we are breaking down the Over 65 age group into three separate sub-groups this year. This enables us to prioritise the most vulnerable patients with our first delivery and also to smooth out the volume of phone calls coming into the surgery.

We strongly encourage patients in all age groups - perhaps with the support of their families  - to get registered to use online services so that you can book an appointment without having to call the surgery. Click here to find out more about registering and using the NHS App.

Patients who don't use a smartphone can now appoint a proxy - a trusted relative perhaps who does use online services to cary out basic tasks for them without having access to their medical history.

1. Patients aged 90+ and housebound patients.

We will send these patients a letter ( which will be posted out on 4th September) and follow up with a phone call so we can make specific arrangements for their vaccination. Patients living in residential care homes will vaccinated by our clinical staff but we will co-ordinate via the care homes themselves.

2. Patients aged 75+ and patients aged 65+ in the 'shielding group'

These patients will be given priority booking for our first two clinics at the Methodist Church Hall which will be on Wednesday 16th September and Wednesday 23rd September. These clinics will have longer appointment times to provide more time and space to be vaccinated safely and comfortably.

Booking an appointment.

  • If you fall into this group and can use on-line services then the appointments will be available to book on-line from midday on 8th September.
  • If you are not able to use on-line services please call us on 01704 575133 and follow the instructions in the recorded message - the booking line will be open between 12pm and 5pm each day

Please do not ring us about your appointment or book online until you have received the letter. When you do receive the letter keep it safely so that you can bring it to your appointment .

3. All other patients aged 65 and over

There are a further two all-day clinics at the Methodist Church Hall which will be on Wednesday 30th September and Wednesday 7th October

  • If you fall into this group and can use on-line services then the appointments will be available to book on-line from midday on 7th September. The appointments for the first two clinics ( 16th and 23rd September) will be visible to you to book but we ask that you don't book these until after or on Monday 14th September to allow a period of exclusivity for the priority patient group.

There is enough vaccine to go round but the deliveries are phased and hence why we are segmenting our patient group.

  • If you are not able to use on-line services please call us on 01704 575133 and follow the instructions in the recorded message - the booking line will be open between 12pm and 5pm each day.

Please do not ring us about your appointment or book online until you have received the letter. When you do receive the letter keep it safely so that you can bring it to your appointment .
